Some Things Won’t Be Forgiven

thR5372XT3A harried mother came to the urgent care center where I was working her five-year old-boy wearing nothing but a sheet and a frown.  He was obviously unhappy with his mother and in distress as I assessed him and asked him the problem.  “I’ve got this big hard piece of tape stuck on the end of my pecker and it won’t come off.  She’s had me sitting in the bathtub all morning, and it ain’t come off yet!”  With this he shot her a murderous look.  She explained he’d had a circumcision recently and the dressing was still clinging stubbornly.

He  broke back in f’uriously, “I told you I didn’t want no surgery!  Ever’thin’ was workin’ just fine till you hired somebody to whittle on me!”

I wasn’t getting in that family fight!

  1. The boy is so very right!!! I am glad we are not doing this over here. Also I did not even let my US son get circumcised. He is almost 16 now and as the little boy said: Everything is working fine.

  2. Poor thing! When I was my sister’s childbirth coach years ago I begged her not to get her boy circumcised, but it was still the norm, and she did. Little guy had some healing issues afterwards that tended to support my position on the whole thing. I was never so unhappy about being right about anything in my life.

When I worked in peds I had a family who took me aside and explained their 6y.o. son would be having a t&a tonsils/androids the next morn and they had explained this and he could have popsicles when he woke up. However the doc was also planning a circumcision while he was under. They were adamant that staff not talk about this..or else. Next afternoon he was rousing and I checked to see how he was doing. I asked ” how are you feeling, can you swallow for me?” He had his hands cupped around his “privates” and said ” my tonsils are OK but boy my adenoids really hurt”
