Mother and I were going through some of her things looking for pictures for my blog when she came upon her homemade diary from 1939. I copied a couple of its tattered pages. I found it endearing to get a peak at a day in her eleven-year-old life. Do little girls that age play dolls now? It was delightful to hear of her playing and running errands. I’m so glad to get this little peek.
What a treasure! Was she writing on brown paper?

No it was white that faded over time

I think eleven year old girls still play with dolls…. but they also have a million other things in their lives at the same time.

I hope they do.

That diary would be priceless to me. She must have kept things hid really well from you kids for it to have survived all these years. I’m not sure my Mother was able to keep anything from us.

It was a tiny thing, just four little pages.

I’m so envious..I’d love to see what my folks wrote as children. Don’t you love the use of cursive ? It’s become a lost skill. Simpler times, indeed. ☺

How wonderful to have those precious memories right there in front of you. It was lovely for you to be able to see first hand what kind of things your Mum loved to do when she was a little girl. So precious.
