  1. Loved that IKEA one. I have always had great respect for their furniture, and instructions. Until I bought my current dresser and bed. The dresser had/has 48 steps to assemble. At step 47, to insert the bottom drawer, the directions made no sense. They showed an angle opposite of logic, which made the drawer impossible to insert. I did the opposite, got the drawer in, called IKEA to tell them, and they already knew–they’d know for some time, but hadn’t updated the instructions. With the bed, a queen, it did not come with box-spring/mattress support slats, but clever X-shaped cross-bracing. The method to screw the bracing was… Let me just say that I called IKEA and said “I am an engineer’s daughter, and you must admit to me now that you have had literally thousands of complaints about the impossibility of attaching your cross-bracing, since there is no clearance to screw in the attachment screws.” IKEA admitted that most of their customers throw out the bracing and make their own slats or buy IKEA’s slatting made for other beds. Shame on them! (I had slats cut at a lumberyard.)

As someone that has done a lot of hiring in my time, none of this surprises me and I have a few incidents that probably would make many shake their heads.
